Daily Diptych 3 – Jeru-Salem

Jeru – a battle, or contention
Gideon was called Jerubaal, which means He who Contends with Baal.

Salem – same as shalom, peace

So, Jerusalem is The Battle for Peace or The Contention for Peace.

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:11

Battle, Peace?!  These seem like incompatible opposites, but where there is no peace, one must contend for peace.  A battle for peace is a battle for life and freedom.  These three always dwell together; life, freedom, peace.
